So I have booted up a new game with FN:V with a very, for me, unusual build in mind. A pure melee character.

Name: Briar Rose

Gender: Female

S.P.E.C.I.A.L.:
Strength: 7
Years of heavy object wailing.
Perception: 6
Above average after years of dodging head blows.
Endurance: 6
Perseverance and good ol' fashioned persistence.
Charisma: 4
Years of being cut, stabbed, beaten, stomped and smashed. (Maybe I should have put this lower.)
Intelligence: 7
A keen reader and study of tactics and strategy has left you alive.
Agility: 6
Nothing S.P.E.C.I.A.L. but your disjointed members can move slightly more than others.
Luck: 4
You luck is mostly bad but doesn't suck. You were shot in the head for fuck's sake.

Traits:
Skilled
Long years in the wastes.
Trigger Discipline
Your mother insisted you learn how to be a steady shot even though you hated it.

Primary Skills: (Max out A.S.A.P.)
Melee
Shit with guns so you prefer to chop people up with something with a sharp(ish) edge.
Sneak
An ambush is the best offence with is the best defence.
Repair
Enemies have hard skulls. Things break.

Secondary Skills: (Important to)
Speech
If you wanna get laid to something not everyone has been in you need a silver tongue.
Science
Discovered science can turn the tide of battle. (Drugz mayn.)
Survival
Living alone in the desert makes this necessary though you prefer not to.

Hardcore normal. Doesn't add much of a challenge though.

Have you considered JE Sawer's Mod?

http://www.nma-fallout.com/showthread.php?197317

I haven't tried it yet, but have been very tempted.

I have heard of it but I think I'll pass for now. But there is one fix he made that I like. Feral Ghouls moved to Neutral Karma. Why they are evil when they are just mindless animals is beyond me.

Note to Self: Pure melee characters need high endurance and heavy armour.

Hehe yeah. But really, soda gives me 2*25 seconds healing. Stims only give me 7*6 seconds. 46 vs 50 IIRC.

I created a quick character to use as a tester or my Mod I'm working on and I blew through the questions with Doc Mitchell and ended up with Unarmed, Melee and Speech as my tag skills.

I may have to try him out once he's done being a test subject.

I realized that I need to be smart about my gal. I can't really ambush people out in the open so I have to zig-zag a lot to avoid being shot. Thankfully I ran into a fight between the Legion and NCR. What loot did I get? A few machetes and a CHAINSAW! MUAHAHAHA!
Also: My character has a limitation that she likes to cut things. So no smashy stuff.

I wonder what would happen if I took Bloody Mess with this chainsaw. Nothing survives for very long once I reach them.

Also: Maxed out Sneak, Speech and close to maxing out Survival.

Hard to sneak when you are revving a chainsaw.

Throwing Spears. Thought they are rare as all hell. :(
Save for grenades, throwing stuff is very, VERY rare.

Throw it, then pick them up again. Or just use the console and give yourself throwing items.

Have you ever used spears and knifes in F:NV? XD You CAN'T pick them up. Chuck it and it's gone.

Also: I found a few areas I have neeever been to in NV. The Thorn and Bitter Springs.

Well it's in an area full of deathclaws and Cazadores. I figured there was nothing of interest out that way.

One of the basic rules of good game design, hide things for the player to find.

So if an area looks like it's not meant to be explored that is one of the first places I go, good game devs will reward you for exploring every nook and cranny.

Also, some of the best loot in the Fallout games is past the giant monster with big claws and fangs, not always but it's usually worth looking.

Like in Fallout 2 in Modoc. You kill the Deathclaw at the hotel/restaurant and all you get is no more omelets.

Welp, I completed Lonesome Road. Without spoiling anything: FUCKING HELL I HATE DEATHCLAWS!
Overall it was interesting. Not at all as I expected it to be. (A Mini-Mojave.)

Put my extra S.P.E.C.I.A.L. on Intelligence. Maxed out a few more skills. Got a load of implants before at the New Vegas Clinic.

Yeah I'm saving that one because when I was on it last time I had the most assfuckingly difficult time with all the heavily armoured swarms of damage dishers.

I love the "human fetish" woman of the scientist trio at the start. XD She's hilarious. <Flicks hair> "OH MY! Yes!"

I think I started it too early and was killed a lot. Fortunately, I could summon Sphess Mareens to help me.Unfortunately, they tended to kill me too.

Well, I am realizing now that I need a ranged complement to my melee focus. So I've gone into energy weapons. I have built a Laser Rifle and spent several hours hunting down the weapon mods. The scope, focus optics and beam splitter. Those and Max Charge Microfusion Cells make for an ectremely capable sniper suit.
I funded it with the money I got from the tag to get kicked out of the three casinos on The Strip. I'm now heading towards Big Mountain in Old World Blues. Hope it goes better this time. ^_^

Oh, and I completed the Deathclaw Pro Hunter challenge. :D
