Simple. Go into inventory and right click somewhere in your inventory. It doesn’t matter where you right click. Next, scroll over the holodisk you want to read and hold down the left mouse button. A menu should appear. Scroll down to the icon that looks like an open hand. This will load the holodisk into your pipboy. After that, exit out of the inventory and click on the button marked 'PIP'. It's right next to the weapon that you're armed with. Once you have accessed your pip-boy, click on Status. There should be a column there marked “Data.” This column has all of the holodisk information that you have loaded into your pip-boy.
There's five people that will join you for your mission-Ian, Tycho, Tandi, Dogmeat, and Katja. Ian is in Shady Sands. You can find him to the building that is east of the gate. He's wearing blue jeans and a leather jacket. Be nice to him. After you're done talking to him, talk to him again. This time, tell him that his experience might be useful and that you would like him to join your mission. He'll make an offer of 100 caps, or something like that. Counter offer this with a piece of action. He might accept, and he might not. If he doesn't, don't worry. After that, go around town and collect things from shelves. After you have cleared out all the shelves of their good, go back to Ian and talk to him again. Once again, offer him a piece of action. He should accept. If he doesn't, then you have to pay him the 100 caps. You can find Dogmeat in Junktown. To get him on your side, proceed to the North part of town where Gizmo's is located. Once your in that part of town, you should notice that there is a guy and a chick outside a house and a dog in front of the house door. Put the leather jacket on, approach the dog, and gain some experience points. The dog will recognize you as his master because the guy who had been his master before was wearing a leather jacket. You don't have to keep the leather jacket on, though, for Dogmeat to continue following you. Tycho can also be found in Junktown. Once it is night at Junktown, proceed to the Skum Pitt, which can be found to the left of Gizmo's place. If it's not night, then unlock the door, go inside, and steal the urn off of the counter. Then, rest until it is night. The bar should then have a bunch of people in it now. Tycho is the one on the west side of the bar, next to the singer. Talk to him, don't be offensive, and ask for his story. He'll give it, and once done, talk to him again. Tell him that Killian has asked you to clean up this town, and see if he wants to help. He'll agree. Now you have Tycho with you. Now it's time for Tandi (that is, if you choose to waste your time). All you have to do is go to Shady Sands and make sure that the Raiders have kidnapped Tandi. Then, proceed to the Raider camp. Talk to the head guy to get a few options on freeing Tandi. Note: You have to holster your weapons here. You can either face the leader of the Raiders in a 1 on 1 HtH match, barter for Tandi's release, ect. I can't remember all of them. Oh well. The easiest (and most fun) way to do this is to just start attacking and kicking ass. Take out the Raiders and make sure Tandi lives. If you're good enough you should have no problem. Now, as long as you do not return to Shady Sands, Tandi will follow you wherever you go. However, she only uses knives, and you can't give her any better weapons. Now it's time for the last one, Katja. You can find her in the library of the Followers of the Apocalypse. That's in the Boneyard, for those of you who didn't know that. She's in the front room, and you should see her as soon as you enter the library. She should say that she's getting board, and stuff like that. Say the right things and she'll join you. She uses knives and SMG's, and usually uses the SMG's on burst mode.
For weapons, you have to barter with them. Ask them which weapons that they are skilled with. Then you can buy or get the weapons off of people you kill and give them to the person of your choice. Even though you are going to lose money for ammunition and such, your life and the life of the vault is a much higher price. Besides, if you're good at the game, money won't be a problem. I have already reached $100,000! Plus, this only works with Ian and Tycho, because you can tell them to draw their best weapon. Dogmeat can't use weapons, Katja won't use anything but knifes, and you can't barter with Tandi. This doesn't work with armor, either. Ian and Tycho will take the armor, but they won't wear it. Fallout 2 has better feature for this.
First, go Downtown in the Hub and talk to Beth in the Weapons Shop. Ask her about the Death Claw and she'll tell you to go talk to Harold. Harold is the mutant in Oldtown. For those of you who don't know exactly where he is, I'll tell you. When you first arrive in Oldtown, go south. It's the second building, and there will be this weird guy standing out front. Ask Harold about the Death Claw. He'll say something about them, I think. Once again, don't be offensive. After that, go to that weird guy outside the door and talk to him. Ask him about the Death Claw, and he'll take you to them. You will be taken to a cave where there is one Death Claw. All you have to do is kill it. The easiest way to kill the Death Claw is with burst weapons. The bigger the burst, the more damage that is done. Before long, the Death Claw will be gone. In the cave is also a mutant. Talk to him. He'll give you a holodisk and then he'll die. All he has on him is a radio. Well, load the disk into your Pipboy. But instead of having to read it all, I'll sum it up. It's just a mutant transmission stating that they have captured a caravan. So, it's the mutant's who are to blame. Return with the disk to the Fargo Traders. Talk to Butch and try explaining it to him. He'll get pissed off at you because he doesn't want to believe you. Then, talk to Rutger and give him the holodisk. He'll give you your reward.
The weapons that work the best are burst weapons. The Gatling Laser works pretty damn good. Or, if you have a Sniper Rifle, aim for the eyes. You can kill a Death Claw in one shot!
The ruins of the ancient order is the Glow. It's the same place.
There are a few ways to get the Power Armor. First, you could go to the third floor of the Brotherhood of Steal. Go to the southeast section of the floor and talk with the repair guy. He's behind the table that has a broken suit of Power Armor on it. Talk with him, tell him that you're looking for Power Armor, and he'll tell you to get a systic motivator and then you can have the broken one, but you'd have to fix it. Next, go to the first floor. Here you can find Talus. When you first enter the BoS, go south down the hall, and when the hall comes to a +, you can find Talus in the room to the southwest. If he is in the back of his room, enter and steal a systic motivator from his locker. Next, go back to the third floor and deliver it to the repair guy. You can now repair the armor if your repair skill is high enough. Another way is to talk to the guy in the training room on the first floor of the BoS. Ask him about getting some better weapons. He'll tell you that if you do him a favor, he'll see what he can do. All you have to do is rescue an initiate from the Hub. So go to Oldtown in the Hub. Once you arrive there, go by the building directly to the south. I suggest that you save before you attempt this. Stand by a window at the building and shoot at the guys on the. Then, step away from the window. There's no specific way to take these guys out from here, so just do it however you please. I like using the Sniper Rifle for this, though. Next, after they're killed, go into the building and unlock the door to the back room. This is the guy that you're supposed to free for the BoS. Talk to him, and he'll thank you and stuff like that. Just be sure to be nice to him. Then, go to the Brotherhood and talk to the guy in the training room. If you're lucky, you should be able to get the Power Armor as your reward. This only worked for me one, though. And now for the last way, the fun way: Take out the BoS. There is a suit of power armor in the supply room.
The water chip can be found in Necropolis. In order to get it, you have to go through the sewers and get to the water shed. First, though, I suggest you talk to the head ghoul in the sewer. Be nice to him. If you say the right things and tell him that you will find the missing parts for the water pump and then repair the pump, he'll wish you well. Then, go talk to Set. He's the leader of the Ghouls above the sewer. Of course, you have to go through the sewer to get to him. He'll tell you to kill the Super Mutants at the water shed. Then, go to the water shed. Kill the mutant named Larry (the one that's standing by a manhole). Then, go into the sewer through the newly discovered manhole. You can find the missing parts to the water pump there. After that, return the parts to the Ghoul leader in the sewer. If your repair skill isn't high enough to repair the pump, he will give you some repair books that will raise your skill high enough to do the job. Then, return to the water shed and take out the mutants. If you have a Minigun or Gautling Laser, use them. Otherwise, if you don't have any other good weapons (i.e.. Plasma or Laser Rifle, ect.), then go to the back windows of the shed and fire at the mutant that's in the front room. Then, step away from the window. (This only works if you have a good guy on your side, preferably Ian or Tycho). The mutants will be so pissed at you that you don't even have to fire another shot! Just run! Ian and Tycho will take out the mutants for you! Nine times out of ten the mutants won't attack them, but save before you do this just to be sure. After that, go into the water shed and fix the pump in the back room by using the broken parts on the pump. After that, free the prisoner. The room next to him contains another manhole, which is the one you need to go down to get the water chip. You'll run into some creatures called 'Glowing Ones', but they're weak. You don't have to worry about them. Proceed to the elevator and go to the third floor. On this floor there should be a dead guy with three glowing ones around him. Kill the enemies. The water chip is in this room! It's the one in the fancy computer with the glowing lights and all. All you have to do is walk up to the computer and grab the chip. By the way, there's a mutant in the building next to the water shed. Be sure to kill this one before you return to Set. When you do go to Set, he might tell you that 'the time is not right for your shadow.' That just means come back later. If you want to kill him, wait until later. Let him know that you took out the mutants at the watershed and collect your reward. This way you get experience points. Afterwards, you can kill Set and his gang, but you better have good weapons and good armor.
You probably forgot to take out the Mother Death Claw and the eggs. In the Death Claw warehouse, there is a staircase that leads to the Mother Death Claw. Just take her out, and the Death Claw will be gone from the area forever.
Go in the back door at the CoC (Children of the Cathedral). Well, it's not a back door into the place, but it's to the back of the building. First open the door that leads to the stairs on the first floor. There's a door in that room that you can open. Be well armed when you do this. When you open the door, you have to take out a Nighkin that's armed with a Gatling Laser. After he's dead, take the weapon. Then, go down the stairs and walk towards the bookshelves in the back room. There is a piece of wall that will be a different shade of gray. You should notice it. There are a few ways to open this door. You can put a bomb by it (I tried it but it didn't work), you can stand around and wait for an NPC to walk through it, you can wait for a guy to come out from the other side, and there should be a switch in the bookshelf that you can use. I never did it the last way, though, so I don't know much about it. Then, kill the Master's Pets, as they're called, and take care of the mutants at the Vault Entrance. Once you're in the vault part of the cave, use the first computer that you come across. Use your science skill on it, and you should be able to get into the PC and find the base.
Simple. There's that one thing next to each force field that looks like an hour glass. This is called the force field emitter. Go into your skilldex and click on your repair skill. Then, click on the emitter. If you have a high repair skill, you should have no problem with this. However, if you're lacking repair experience, then you simply have to keep trying and eventually you'll get it.
Yes. It's called Hardened Power Armor. You can't find it anywhere in the game. You have to go to Mitty in Adytum. At least, I think that's his name. He's the guy to the south in Adytum. He's outside the building that has a sewer full of mushrooms, incase that helps. Plus, he's a chemist. Talk to him, and be careful about what you say. He'll say something about some hydroelectric pumps that need to be fixed, or something like that. He'll also tell you that there was a guy who was sent out to retrieve the missing parts. If you haven't completed this mission, I'll tell you how. The guy that was supposed to retrieve the missing parts got killed by the Death Claw. You can find the corpse on the right side of the warehouse where the Death Claw are. Return the parts to Mitty. He'll ask you to take them to this other guy, but tell him to do it himself. Then, the next time you talk to him, he'll mention the fact that he knows how to add on to some types of armor. He'll also make a note that he can improve the Power Armor that you're wearing. In order for him to do this, though, you have to get some science diaries and notebooks from the librarian, Mrs. Sappleton, in the Hub. The Library is right next to the FLC, the General Store, and the place where Beth is. Tell Mrs. Sappleton that you were sent to retrieve the books, and she'll give them to you. You might have to buy them, though. I can't remember for sure. If you do have to make a purchase, though, I know that it isn't anything you can't afford. After that, return to the Boneyard and talk to Mitty again. He'll say that he can make improvements on the armor, but it'll take him a day to research what he needs to do. Agree to this, and the next day, you'll have Hardened Power Armor. It weighs an extra 15 lbs, but increases a few of your traits. I don't know if that's what they're exactly called, but oh well. For example, wearing the Hardened Power Armor increases your strength.
Go to Adytum and talk with the mayor. He'll tell you that his son has been killed and he wants you to take out the Blades. The Blades are to the north. Talk to the leader, who is a chick in the room to the right of the entrance. Be nice and careful. If successful, you should be able to get the whole story form her. The truth is this: The Regulators are the ones who killed the mayor's son. The only reason that they killed him was because he was trying to reach his father or something like that. You'll receive the full story, plus a holodisk form her. Load the holodisk and read what it says. You may be surprised about what exactly happened. Then, ask the Blades why they didn't take out the Regulators, or something like that. They'll say that they don't have enough fire power to do that. (Please note that this only works if you have already taken out the Death Claw of the area.) Then, go to the Gunrunners and ask them for help. They will then supply the Blades with the weapons and armor that they need. Next, go back and talk with the leader of the Blades and agree to help them take out the Regulators. Once you're successful at this and all of the Regulators are dead, (make sure that you don't miss any) you can then get the Turbo Plasma Rifle. Not off of one of the dead bodies, but you can have a guy in Adytum modify a regular Plasma Rifle. The guy you should talk to is Smitty. When you first enter Adytum, there's a partial building with a tent inside of it to the east. The next building down from that is where Smitty is. If you have a Plasma Rifle on you at the time, he'll modify it into a Turbo Plasma Rifle. Otherwise, get a Plasma Rifle and go back to Smitty.
If you have Hardened Power Armor, a Turbo Plasma Rifle, and a bunch of Stimpaks and Super Stimpaks, you should have no problem. Power Armor is weak against a Turbo Plasma Rifle. A high level also helps. Plus, if you don't want your NPC's (Ian, Tycho) to get killed, then leave them behind at a different town before you go to the BoS. I suggest that you do the mission solo because then the NPC's can't screw it up.
It depends on how far into the game you are and what skills you have. My favorite weapons, though, are the Minigun, the Gatling Laser, and the Rocket Launcher.
Yes. You can take out the mother Deathclaw, and then return to the Gunrunners. Talk to Gabriel (I think that's his name) and tell him that you took out all the Deathclaw. Then, return to the Deathclaw area. Go back to the gunrunners right afterwards and you should be able to talk to Gabriel and get 1000 experience points. You may have to go to the area that the mother Deathclaw was in for this to work, but I didn't have to. Another way to do this is to kill all the Deathclaw, but let the mother live. Then, keep returning and taking out the new Deathclaw that appear. Another way is to just circle around the Mutant Base to encounter the patrols in the area. Not only will you get Experience Points, but you'll also get weapons and ammo.
You can get these weapons by killing Super Mutants who are carrying them. You can also get some ammo for these off of dead Mutants. If you want, you can buy the Minigun at the Gunrunners place, and you can get a Rocket Launcher from Jake in Oldtown of the Hub. I think there may be a place where you can get a free Rocket Launcher (maybe from the Gunrunners, from one of the lockers that are blocked by guys. After you have defeated the Deathclaw and brought the good news to Gabriel, the people blocking the way to the lockers should move, and then have complete access to them. If I remember right, there should be a Rocket Launcher in one of them.) There is no place in the game where you can just pick up a Gatling Laser from a shelf or out of a locker. You have to kill a Mutant who has one in order to acquire it. If you go to the Children of the Cathedral church, you can get one off of a Mutant there. Just enter the back hall behind the big screen. There is a Mutant guarding the staircase. This one has the Gatling Laser, and will attack you as soon as the door is open, unless you are wearing a robe (I think). Another way to get these kick-ass weapons is to take out the BoS. Plus, the supply room is full of ammo.
It is pretty hard to acquire stimpaks, and especially super stimpaks, but I do know of some places where you can find them. In the Boneyard, you can get 9 stims in the Follower's church. At the BoS, you can find two super stims on level 2, and two on level 3. You can also find three stims on level 3. In the Hub, you can buy some if you have the money at the General Store (All In One Store). There are 2 super stims and 27 regular stims there. Also in the Hub, you can talk to Vance in Oldtown, and buy 10 super stims, and 12 stims. Plus, if you don't want to buy 'em, you can stop down by the Water Merchants, take out the people in the church, and then you can get into the back room and acquire 5 stims and a super stim.
The psychic nullifier can be found on level two of the Children of the Cathedral basement. All you have to do is go to the room in the upper left of the screen, and convince one of the crazy guys to give you one. When you have a psychic nullifier in your inventory, it will prevent you from taking damage while walking down the Master's hallway.
Throughout the Glow, you can find pass keys that will allow you to disable the electronic devices on the elevators, which will allow you to gain access to the lower levels. You can tell which pass key to use on which elevator door because the color on the key will match that of the door. For example, if the elevator has red around it, you will have to use the red pass key on that elevator. After that is done, you can use the elevator without worry. However, you may have to repeat this procedure the next time you want to use it.
When you return to Shady Sands after a certain amount of time, Tandi's father, Razlo, will tell you that his daughter has been kidnapped by the raiders, or The Khans. He will then ask you to rescue her. With that in mind, leave Shady Sands and go to the raider encampment. As soon as you arrive there, you will probably want to unarm yourself. Otherwise, you can expect to be attacked. After arriving there, head north and enter the main building. Here you will find a guy wearing metal armor. He is the guy in charge, so talk to him. Now, there are several ways in which you can rescue Tandi. First off all, you can barter for her. Otherwise, you can fight the leader one on one in hand to hand combat. If you win, Tandi will be released. The last you can rescue Tandi is to simply kill all of the Raiders. Whichever you choose, be sure to save first in case something goes wrong. Once she is rescued, you can either return her to Shady Sands or keep her with you. It's up to you.
In order to get the water chip, you will most likely have to kill all, if not most, of the Super Mutants that are near the water shed in Necropolis. Otherwise, if you have an incredibly high sneak skill, you might be able to sneak past the mutants. Either way, you need to get past the mutants and to the sewer under the water shed in order to get the Water Chip.
We are always looking for new questions to add to this FAQ. If you have a question that you feel should appear on this page, please post it on the Fallout 1 forum. Thanks!
